QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES VIA ZOOM –The Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Office held an all staff member and board meeting last April 28, 2022 via Zoom. This meeting highlighted the Philippine counterpart with its very own volunteer network that started launching in two Regional Platforms last February and March 2022.
Cedric Puertollano, Regional Coordinator for Luzon, presented the A-PAD PH concept in Human Resource Network (HRN). The HRN aims to augment the existing human resource capacity of the A-PAD PH National Platform in conducting critical disaster response activities. In effect, this will help the Regional Platforms with their
tasks and activities before, during, and after a disaster. He also presented the objectives, volunteer’s role during an emergency and peacetime, its incentives to the volunteers, and their planned activities.
Moreover, Mr. Puertollano shared how the Regional Coordinators were able to scout and mobilize the volunteers in their respective regions, as well as their initial feedback on their experience as becoming A-PAD volunteers.
After the presentation, the participants had a chance to ask the A-PAD PH Team questions about the HRN, best practices in building partnerships, and making the regional platform work.
This meeting was attended by 35 participants from Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, and the Philippines. The Management Office hoped that this initiative can inspire other Asia-Pacific countries to form their own volunteer groups.
