Manila, Philippines – In a significant stride towards bolstering disaster preparedness and response, the Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Philippines (A-PAD PH) donated crucial medical supplies to the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) on June 18, 2024. This initiative is part of the ongoing project, “Strengthening Community Resilience for Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Response,” generously supported by the People of Japan through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
The donated medical supplies include collapsible medical shelter tents (3m x 6m), automated external defibrillators (AEDs), laryngoscopes, ambu bag resuscitators, first aid kits, and Hazmat personal protective equipment (PPE). These essential items are aimed at enhancing the PMA’s capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to disasters, ensuring that medical infrastructure remains resilient and capable of providing critical care during emergencies.
“The handover of these vital supplies underscores our commitment to strengthening community resilience and disaster preparedness,” said Gilbert N. Albero, A-PAD PH President, during the ceremony. “This initiative reflects the unwavering support of both A-PAD PH and the People of Japan in safeguarding the health and well-being of our communities.”
Held at the Philippine Medical Association grounds, the event highlighted the strong partnership between A-PAD PH and PMA. It marked a significant milestone in their collaborative efforts to boost disaster response capabilities in the Philippines.
Dr. Hector Santos, President of the PMA, expressed his gratitude, stating, “These supplies are crucial in enhancing our disaster response capabilities. The collaboration with A-PAD PH and the support from the People of Japan are invaluable in our mission to provide timely and effective medical care during emergencies.”
Present at the event was Ms. Tokiko Nishimura, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Manila. In her speech, she commended the strong partnership between A-PAD PH and PMA for their shared dedication to safeguarding community health and resilience. She emphasized that the Government of Japan stands by its commitment to support initiatives that contribute to a safer and more resilient future for all.
